De Kwakel, December 2024 – In the 2024 season, HBA conducted a pinching trial with several cut hydrangea varieties and selections for cut production from the Royal series. Sjoerd Ederveen is enthusiastic about the results of Royal Princess, Royal Impressive, and Royal Salute. Additionally, some long-established varieties like Royal Sunset and Royal Supreme and a few selections performed excellently.
The trial results were shared with growers cultivating HBA varieties at the end of the season. “If only classic hydrangeas are available on the market late in the season, it’s remarkable to offer fresh flowers. That’s commercially interesting,” says HBA crop specialist Sjoerd Ederveen.
