De Kwakel, June 2023 – HBA’s Hydrangea Night, traditionally held on Thursday during the Flower Trials 2023, was a success. Guests from the Netherlands and abroad were informed about the extensive HBA range while enjoying a snack and a drink.
Among the potted plants, there was a great deal of interest in the improved Tabletensia, a well-branched, low-growing hydrangea that flowers on all shoots. True Blue (a different name is needed here) also attracted a lot of attention due to its appealing deep dark purple-blue color.
The great interest in HBA’s cut hydrangea range was striking. Sjoerd Ederveen, responsible for hydrangea cultivation at HBA, showed growers the new varieties and exchanged knowledge and information about diseases and biological control of pests. In that context, two Koppert representatives were also present to provide information about sustainable solutions for crop protection.
Floral designer Inge Quint showed on site how hydrangeas can be incorporated into attractive flower arrangements. She made various, special pieces based on the four design files (natural beauty, exotic impact, luxurious collar and round&round) from the Hydrangea Catalog ’23-’24 of Royal Flora Holland and the promotion committee Hortensia.
“I think we showed a special and varied presentation to our relations in which we showed all aspects of the hydrangea trade,” says director Jaap Stelder. “People responded enthusiastically and the atmosphere was good. The purpose of the Hydrangea Night is to surprise and inspire each other. And I think that worked out well.”
